Wherever summer takes you, here is your Summer issue of What’s Happening in Southwest Florida.  Things are changing daily but here’s the latest as of July 1st.

Back-to-School Supply Drive at Aubuchon Team of Companies
June 25th – August 5th | 4707 SE 9th Pl, Cape Coral, FL 33904 | The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is collecting school supplies for the 2020-2021 school year! Help support educators and students in the School District of Lee County. Donate Supplies Today! Broadway Palm Dinner Theater
Come experience The Sound of Music  this month. Sing a long to your favorites songs, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, and all the rest! To reserve your seat, call the box office at (239) 278.4422. Online ordering is currently not available for this production. Seating has been adjusted to ensure safety. All tables are private and no parties will be sat together, unless they come together.

Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center
New art exhibit every month from local to world-renowned artists. Exhibits are open from 6 – 10 pm during Art Walk, July 3rd. Call ahead for gallery hours for other times, 239.333.1933. $1 Donation Entry Fee. This month’s exhibits feature:

4th of July in Bonita Springs
Drive-in Firework and Laser Light Show! The event will take place at the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Racing & Poker site located at 10601 Bonita Beach Road. Gates will open at 8 pm, show will begin at 9 pm. The City of Bonita Springs looks forward to celebrating July 4th with you in a safe manner. Out of This World 4th of July Drive-In Celebration
Make your way to Collier Fairgrounds for an “Out Of This World 4th of July Drive-In Celebration!” Featuring breathtaking patriotic light displays utilizing video mapping, LED panels, sound, lasers, special effects and costumed entertainers set across the backdrop of motivational moments in history and popular music from various decades and genres. Be wowed from the comfort of your own vehicle. This event will take place each evening from July 3 – 5th, space is limited each night, so reserve your tickets HERE!

2nd Annual Festival of Grilled Cheese, July 11th from 5 – 10 pm
Join the festivities at Millenial Brewing for a head to head challenge to see who has the Best Grilled Cheese! A portion of the proceeds for this event will benefit Little Bear Sanctuary in Punta Gorda.

UnicornFest at Millenial Brewing Company, July 18th from 5 – 10 pm
National Unicorn Day – time to celebrate this mythical creature! Unicorn costume contest, rainbow desserts, kids activities, glitter rainbow beers and seltzer releases, live entertainment and more!

Farmers’ Markets & Social Distancing Events

Cape Coral Downtown Farmers’ Market – Open Saturdays from 8 am – 1 pm in Club Square, where it will remain through the summer!

Cape Coral Farmers’ Market at Cape Harbour – Open Sundays from 9 am – 1 pm

Surfside Sunshine Farmers’ Market – Located in the Shops at Surfside, NW corner of Veterans Parkway & Surfside Boulevard will be open every Tuesday from 8 am – 1 pm.

  • Vendors  at the above locations will offer produce, foods, soaps & pet foods.  Visitors are asked to wear face masks and maintain social distancing recommendations.  Additional staff will be stationed at the markets to encourage people to follow social distancing guidelines.​

Alliance Market – The Alliance for the Arts GreenMarket reopens to the public from 9 am – 1 pm on July 4th, and every Saturday, with added precautions & following CDC guidelines. The Wednesday drive-thru pickup service initiated in response to COVID-19 will also remain in operation. Located at 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.

Museums & Zoos

C’mon! Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples will have a grand opening for its new Inventioneer’s Lab on July 11 during regular museum hours. Makers of all ages are encouraged to build and experiment in the Lab, as they challenge themselves to solve problems. Visitors are required to obtain tickets online. For more details, click HERE.

Edison and Ford Winter Estates – While the remainder of the site is closed, the Garden Shoppe is open Fridays through Sundays, from 9 am – 4 pm to purchase plants and gardening-related items.

Mound House – Take yourself on a tour for cultural and environmental learning experience. Mound House is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 9 am – 4 pm. New outdoor guided tours are now available. Call 239.765.0865 for more information.

Naples Botanical Garden will open to the public beginning July 6th. You may reserve a no-cost ticket online starting July 2nd for non-members. Many safety enhancements and guidelines are in place to protect all. Click here for more information.

Recreation at Home

Disney+ “Hamilton” the Tony Award-winning musical with the entire original cast, including creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will begin streaming on July 3rd. With or without theaters and Broadway shut down, you simply must not throw away your shot!

Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau has just launched a podcast, or better said, Shellcast. Tune in and listen to a variety of interviews to educate & entertain you!
