There’s always something new and exciting to do in Southwest Florida.  This September, check out What’s Happening in Southwest Florida!

Broadway Palm Dinner Theater (Buy your ticket here)

  • Murder on the Orient Express | Adapted for the stage by Ken Ludwig| September 1-3, 6-10, 13-16  | The luxurious Orient Express experiences a murder, and the only detective on board is tasked with finding the killer.
  • Hairspray |  Broadway’s Tony-Award Winning Best Musical | September 22-24, 27-30  |  Baltimore’s Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and a big heart. Follow her journey in 1962 from outsider to teen celebrity overnight.

Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center 
New art exhibit every month from local to world-renowned artists. Exhibits are open from September 1st – 28th. Call ahead for gallery hours for other times, 239.333.1933. $1 Donation Entry Fee. This month’s exhibits feature:

  • Digital (C)AGE | This exhibition showcases a variety of recycled art, each piece specially turned from trash to treasure.
  • The Shapeshifting Artist | This solo exhibition is showcasing the numerous works of “artist” Mary LaGarde. She refuses to be called an artist, as she shifts so easily between forms of art expression.
  • Latin Dance with Angela | The first Wednesday of every month, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center honors the art of movement with a fun dance lesson from local singer/dancer Angela Hicks. No cover fee and open to the public from 6:30 – 7:30 PM September 6th.
  • Wine & Paint | The third Wednesday of every month, the art center holds an evening painting event. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased here. You will be supplied with a canvas, paint brushes and paint, and 2 glasses of wine. September 20th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
  • ​Island Hopper Songwriter Fest | Come out on September 27th to support some of the ACMA’s best local singer/songwriters. Tickets are $10, you can purchase yours (on a first come, first serve seating basis) through this link. The concert will start at 7:30 PM.
  • Friday Nights at Sidney’s: DJ Selecta AJ | Bring friends and family out to support one of SWFL’s most sought-after DJ’s. With 20 years of experience, DJ Selecta AJ will be playing a wide variety of mixes you are guaranteed to enjoy. Rooftop bar opens at 6 PM, but the music is from 8 PM- 11 PM.

EVENTS

Art Walk | September 1 | 6 – 10 PM | Downtown Fort Myers
Art Walk features the work of local and national artisans in Downtown Fort Myers art galleries and several art stops in the Fort Myers River District. This month kicks off the 30 Days of Art and Culture event.  Enjoy discounts and unique cultural experiences throughout the month.

Cape Coral Kayak Tournament | September 4 | 8 AM | First Round Draft & Monarca’s Mexican Restaurant
The 1st Annual Cape Coral Kayak Tournament takes participants on a 7.25 mile route with a time range from 2-4 hours.  There is a $30 donation for racers, which will go directly to the Cape Coral Animal Shelter.  Registration can be done here.  Cape Coral Kayaks will provide kayaks for the participants. There will be 20 one-person and 20 two-person kayaks available.​

Sunset Fest | September 6 | 6 – 9 PM | Four Freedoms Park
Four Freedoms Park is hosting Sunset Fest the first Wednesday of the month, starting in September.  The event includes free entry, parking and live music for all to enjoy.

Sizzle Dining Charity Event | September 7-27 | Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Marco Island, Sanibel Island, Babcock Ranch
For three weeks this month, celebrate all the amazing food Southwest Florida has to offer while supporting a great local cause!  Sizzle Dining is partnering with ‘Blessings in a Backpack SWFL’ with one dollar from each meal being donated. Ladies Prom – Rock the Decades | September 9 | 6:30 PM | Four Freedoms Park
Come out to this “Mom Prom” at the Four Freedoms Park. Tell all the moms you know – and tell them to wear their best decades prom dress! It will be a night of fun with food, live DJ, giveaways and a crowning of the Queen! Call 239-574-0804 to register!

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony | September 11 | 8:30 AM | Cape Coral City Hall
Join the Cape Coral Police Department, Cape Coral Fire Department, and the City of Cape Coral on the morning of 9/11 to honor the lives lost. The ceremony will take place at Cape Coral City Hall on the front lawn. 2,977 American flags will be placed to honor the victims of the tragic attacks.

Music Walk | September 15 | 6 – 10 PM | Downtown Fort Myers
The streets of Downtown Fort Myers come alive for one night only concerts showcasing musicians of all talent levels and a variety of styles located in spots throughout the Fort Myers River District.  Free to attend and fun for all ages.

Vintage Market Days | September 15-17 | 10 AM – 4 PM | Lee Civic Center
The Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers is hosting an indoor/outdoor market which will have original art, antiques, clothing, handmade treasures, furniture, food trucks and more! Visit here for more information and how to purchase tickets.

Women on the Rise of SWFL | September 30 | 3 – 5 PM | Downtown Fort Myers
Join the WOTR group for an evening of cocktails, Hors d’oeuvres, and making new connections at The Lucky Screw in Downtown Fort Myers!

Cape Coral Downtown Farmers’ Market – Open Saturdays from 8 AM – 1 PM in Club Square. One of the largest markets in Southwest Florida!

J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge –  The visitor center is now open. The observation tower, a section of the Indigo Trail, Wildlife Education Boardwalk, and Wulfert Key Trail will be accessible.  Click here for more information.

Shell Factory Nature Park –  There is so much to do at the Shell Factory – check out their calendar.  A month full of live performances and flea markets!

Edison Ford Winter Estates – Visitors to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates will enjoy more than 20 acres of historical buildings and gardens including the 1928 Edison Botanical Research Laboratory.  Open 363 days a year, closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.  Click here for information.
